Nevada County

Nevada County is a fabulous place to live.  Not only is it historical but contemporary at the same time. Scene of California's Gold Rush from the 1840's...Where the University systems started in the downstairs of a church...Where hydraulic mining was invented.

The county boasts a diverse mix of scenery from the rolling landscape of Penn Valley, Browns Valley areas, all the way to the alpine grandeur of the Grouse Lakes wilderness. There's the South Yuba River and its associated state park, full of beauty and life. Complementing the natural wonders are the historic centers of Nevada City and Grass Valley, with the housing stock in each city reflecting the changing day both contemporary mood from the 1840's to the current day. Both cities feature historic districts, numerous festivals, a low rate of crime, and great restaurants. The school system in Nevada County is ranked highly, and Grass Valley is home to the Nevada County campus for Sierra College.

Nevada City

Nevada City is considered one of the friendliest, liveliest, and most colorful, best-preserved Gold Rush towns today. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and has recently been placed as the final destination to the California Annual Bike Tour. Prepared for its future by preserving its past . . . Nevada City is filled with picturesque  Gold Rush and Victorian era buildings and surrounded by lush green forests. The residents enjoy the four seasons and proximity to the ski slopes.

Nevada City is more than just historical, it is the center of nightlife, quaint restaurants, art galleries, street fairs, theaters with live performances, and is the gateway to the sierra back roads and hiking trails.

Grass Valley

Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, Grass Valley offers great seasonal weather, natural beauty and a relaxed lifestyle. Historic downtown is the hub of the community, with unique shops, award winning restaurants, and beautiful Victorian homes.

Grass Valley is abundant with hiking and biking trails, white water rafting, water skiing and golf . . just to name a few. Home to Empire Mine State Park, a 784-acre state park that produced 5.8 million ounces of gold from 367 miles of underground shafts, in 1850 to 1956. The Empire Mine State is site of the oldest, richest, hard rock gold mine in California.

Penn Valley

Just down the road from Grass Valley, about 10 miles, Penn Valley is nicknamed; "The Silicon Valley of the Sierras." With wide open spaces of spectacular scenery, a mild four-season climate, and historic places to visit; Penn Valley is another beautiful part of Nevada County. Located in Penn Valley, Lake Wildwood a gated community with sports such as; golf, tennis, swimming, fishing, and boating.

Bridgeport, built in 1862 at 215 feet, is one of only 10 covered bridges remaining in California. Not only is the bridge a great site to see, but there are many popular hiking trails to take from this location in addition to various swimming holes and beaches to relax and explore on.  The picture of the bridge on my website is one I took several years ago.  I greatly enjoy spending summer afternoons hiking, and enjoying the rivers in this beautiful area.
